Tattoo Aftercare

Adhering to proper aftercare post-tattoo is crucial for promoting optimal healing, preventing infections, and ensuring the longevity and vibrancy of the tattoo.

What to Expect

  • Swelling and redness are minimal with most clients and should subside in 24-48 hours. In some cases, localized swelling/redness may last for up to 72 hours. The procedure area may feel like a sunburn, but with proper aftercare, any discomfort should be minimal.

Aftercare Instructions

  • Wear the bandage for 2-4 days post-tattoo. Remove the bandage and run the wound under as hot water as possible for a few minutes.

  • You may shower or bathe normally but only use an antibacterial soap. Gently rub the area with your fingertips and soap to remove any blood and plasma. Do not use any loofahs, clothes, etc.

  • After the initial wash, let the tattoo air dry for 1-2 days.

  • Avoid the use of any kind of moisturizer, oils, or petroleum jelly products on the procedure area for the first two weeks. A thin layer of the recommended recovery aid should be applied after cleansing the procedure area as described previously. The recovery aid should be applied for the first 7-14 days of healing.

  • Do not pick or scratch any skin that may become dry/flaky; allow this skin to shed naturally.

  • Avoid open bodies of water such as pools, lakes, hot tubs, and baths.

  • Irritating or itching your new tattoo can result in colour loss or uneven healing.

Signs of Infection

Although rare, all procedures come with the risk of infection. Some signs of infection include, but are not limited to:

  • Swelling or redness lasting more than 72 hours

  • Discharge that is yellow or green in colour or has an unpleasant odour

  • Acute pain that exceeds mild discomfort, such as that caused by a sunburn

If you experience any possible signs of infection, please contact a doctor.
